What is Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)?

SSY is a government savings scheme for girl children (under 10 years). Parents or guardians can open one account per girl child (max 2 girls per family). It offers 8.2% interest (current rate), tax-free maturity, and 80C deduction — making it the best savings scheme for a girl's future.

When does SSY mature?

SSY matures 21 years from the date of opening. If opened when the daughter is 5, it matures when she turns 26. However, partial withdrawal of 50% is allowed when she turns 18 for education or marriage expenses.

What if I miss a year's deposit in SSY?

If you miss the minimum ₹250 deposit in any year, the account becomes dormant. To reactivate, pay the minimum deposit of ₹250 per missed year plus a penalty of ₹50 per year. You can then continue contributing.
