EPF Corpus = Σ [Monthly Contribution × (1 + r/12)^remaining_months] | Monthly Contribution = 12% of Basic Salary (Employee + Employer)

What is EPF and who contributes to it?

EPF (Employee Provident Fund) is a retirement savings scheme. Both employee and employer contribute 12% of basic salary + DA. Employee's 12% goes entirely to EPF. Employer's 12% is split: 8.33% to EPS (pension) and 3.67% to EPF.

What is the current EPF interest rate?

The EPF interest rate for FY 2023-24 is 8.25% per annum, credited annually. The EPFO Board recommends the rate each year, subject to government approval.

Is EPF withdrawal tax-free?

Yes, EPF withdrawal after 5 continuous years of service is completely tax-free. Withdrawal before 5 years attracts TDS at 10% (or 34.608% without PAN). EPF is under EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status.
